1970 Midway Flying Carpet

Description: Flying Carpet, Midway #542, 4/70, gun game with an India theme, custom 6-track tape player sound only. Here's the sound files in Wav format. Quality not so good, but it gives you and idea of how the multi-track tape would sound. This game implements multi-track sound much like the 1972 Midway Haunted House. Each target type has three different sounds, implemented on it's own repeating track on the custom tape (again similar to Haunted House, but using a custom tape and custom player.) The total length of the custom tape is about 6 inches, and it plays across three tape heads (times two due to track spacing.) Unfortunately there's no background soundtrack though. This was basically Midway's first step in the 8-track process that was perfected on their Midway Haunted House (where they used an actual 8-track system, opposed to this custom 6-track tape and player.) It's interesting to see how this sound system evolved.

Game has some unique features. The lower four genies move left/right, but when hit, constantly spin (very cool feature.) On the left side is another genie that moves up/down with slight left/right movement. But the main character is the genie on the flying carpet. that occupies the majority of the screen space, and randonly flies about. The gun does have recoil. Score reels are motorized.
