Description: Tungo, International Mutoscope, 1954 to 1956, strength tester game. The stronger your grip, the longer Tungo the Clown will stick out his tongue. The tongue starts out at 100 and the object is try to get to 1000 points. Each level has a descriptor like "Stevedore" (dock worker) at 800 points for men, and "Amazon" at 800 points for women. Tungo was also available in three different models. a countertop model (with no dome), a console model which sits on a stand (again no dome), and a full upright model (with a plastic dome over the clown head.) Tungo's strength handle mechanism came in two styles - a round rotating handle, and a fixed rectangle assembly. You can see the two different styles on the Tungos below. On the standup version of Tungo, the metal body came in just one color, orange. Often the orange fades badly into a pale redish orange color. The original bright orange color can be seen below, and how it faded to a much lighter orange color.
When I re-did my Tungo I found that Prismatic Powders' Gorange 4101 color was a good match.
Tungo strength lever and springs removed from game. The small springs give
the player an easy first 1/2 inch on Tungo's tongue, then the larger spring
kicks in making any more tongue movement much more difficult. Note this is
the fixed rectangle handle, opposed to the round rotating style.
