1980 Bally Eight Ball Deluxe Pinball game

Description: Bally Eight Ball Deluxe (9/80), Eight Ball Deluxe Limited Edition (12/82), Eight Ball Deluxe Classic (11/84). Uses Bally -35 MPU board, Squawk & Talk sound board, 7 digit displays. The Eight Ball Deluxe was so popular it was reissued by Bally three times. The first (9/80) and third versions (11/84) were full size pinball, and the second version (12/82) was a half-sized backbox version known as Eight Ball Deluxe Limited Edition. All three versions used exactly the same boards and software. The 8 Ball Deluxe with the half sized backbox was Bally's attempt at using up their left-over Rapid Fire cabinets (a failed pinball/gun game that Bally thought would sell well) in a reissued Eight Ball Deluxe format. The Eight Ball Deluxe Limited Edition with the half sized cabinet is pretty ugle compared to the full sized version. The third version known as Eight Ball Deluxe Classic with the full sized cabinet has a slightly different and thinner backbox (which was the current cabinet style Bally was using in 1984). But other than the cabinet all Eight Ball Deluxe versions are the same game. About 400 of the first 8 Ball Deluxe pinballs produced had white pop bumper caps and bodies instead of the more familiar golden ones. Some of the first versions had plastic playfields. The inline drop targets on the left side of the playfield are a good feature of the game. Also the right side drop targets can be individually lowered by the game.
