1940 Exhibit Supply Short Stop pinball

Description: Short Stop, Exhibit Supply Company ESCO, 04/40. Twelve spring bumpers which represent singles or home runs, with doubles and triples achieved by the green Mystery spring bumpers. The center black spring bumper can score home run or special (operator selectable.) Playfield running man animation with a rotating turntable that loads up to four 7/8" white marbles as basemen. The two yellow spring bumpers have a switch between them to score a home run, if the yellow bumpers are lit (note the switch does nothing if the associated yellow bumpers are unlit.)

At the bottom of the playfield there is a magnet (which is always on during game play.) The rollover switch in the middle of the magnet turns off magnet power, which throws the ball in different directions. In addition if the light above the magnet is lit, runs are scored with each ball pass over the switch (no running man unit action, just increments the run stepper unit.) A very cool feature.

In 1940 there were sixteen major league baseball teams, and they are all listed by name on either the backglass or the playfield. There's a few listed on this game which no longer exist. For example the Boston Bees (1936 to 1941), which became the 1942 Boston Braves. Also on the game is the Washington Senators, 1901 to 1960 (became the 1961 Minnesota Twins.) Lastly the St.Louis Browns (1901 to 1953) and then became the 1954 Baltimore Orioles.

Game originally shipped with 1 1/8" steel pinballs, but most owners install the more common 1 1/16" ball for better play. Electro mechanical pinball.
