1974 Century World Series
1975 Century World Series Console
1976 Century World Series II

Description: World Series, Century Consolidated Industries, 1974. A completely solidstate wall game (unlike the 1972 Midway Bullseye which was an EM game.) Century was a small company that lasted from 1970 to 1979 making unusual games. They even made a handful of cocktail pinball games. World Series was released in 1974, but a console floor model was also sold in 1975. Finally in 1976, World Series II was released.

The Century World Series was a TTL game. Though completely solid state, it used no CPU micro processor. It also had solidstate sound (crowd noise and fireworks for a home run, crowd noise for a base hit, for example, but no sound when an infielder catches the ball for an out.) World Series was available with a console floor stand too, if desired, in 1975. The two remote controls were wireless, but wired controls could also be used. Also the game was available with no electronic (or any) sound board, for "quiet" locations (or cheap operators.) Like the Midway wall games, this game was only available for play as a two-player game. Wall box size was 47" x 32" x 4". Operator adjustable to 3 or 5 innings, with free games won above 12 runs. Also operator adjustable to Easy or Hard play. Note the infielders can catch a hit ball for an out. Also if the batter swings and misses, that is also an out (there is no strike counts.) Base runners are light animated as they run the bases, using 12volt incandescent bulbs. The game would be better if the sound was a bit better. But overall, this is a good playing wall game.

Wall games were a fixture in many bars during the 1970s. And Century was looking to take advantage of that market. Apparently this game did not sell too well, as examples of the game are not often seen (compared to say the Midway wall games.) But interestingly, in 1976 Century released World Series II, but it's unclear what is different about this version over the original 1974 World Series game. From what I can tell, they added a bat crack sound with a hit, and no other changes.
