1968 Crown Periscope

Description: Periscope, Crown (Taito), 1968, basically a similar game to Midway's Sea Raider, with some differences. For example the moving motorized ships which are aimed for by the player are three dimensional figures, mounted on a metal lever. When the player hits a ship, the target ship drops. It's a nice effect. The game is set up for kids and adults - kids can look through the periscope and play the game. Adults look through the top glass and play. The game is timed, with a motorized timer unit on the control panel.

Regarding the electronic sound, it's a pretty neat feature. Crown essentially mounted a bass spring on the inside of the cabinet, with a guitar pickup. WHen you hit a ship for a score, a large coil strikes the bass spring. This is picked up but the guitar pickup, and the sound send to an amplifer, which is mounted below the control panel at the front of the game. It's a pretty cool sound feature.
